Getting started
- How does Goodmood work?
-
Goodmood is image-processing software that sits between your screen and your eyes. Up to 120 times per second, it reads each frame displayed on your screen, processes it on the GPU, and instantly renders an optimized version in real time.
The goal is simple: create a better screen experience tailored to how your eyes and brain feel — without recording, saving, or transmitting anything. Everything happens on your device, in the moment. - What's free and what's paid?
-
The app is free to download and use with the default settings, no account,
no time limit. The floating lens works, Privacy Mode works, and your screen
starts feeling better immediately.
For $0.99/month USD (pricing may vary by country) you unlock full personalization: 14 pill themes, custom preset builder, and more. You can cancel anytime from your Mac App Store subscriptions. - How do I install Goodmood?
- Download it from the Mac App Store. Once installed, open the app, it lives in your menu bar and starts working immediately. No account, no setup required.
- Is Goodmood really free?
- Yes, the core app is free, forever. You can download it and use it with the default settings at no cost, with no time limit. Personalization features (mood presets, pill themes, custom presets) are unlocked with a $0.99/month subscription.
- Is Goodmood ad-free?
- No ads. Goodmood runs without ads on both free and paid tiers. Ads are a form of stimulation, noise your brain doesn't need.
Using the app
- Can I create my own presets?
- Yes. Use the Custom Presets feature to dial in your own filter combination and give it a name you'll actually remember.
- What are the 14 pill themes?
- Pill themes change the visual style of the Goodmood floating interface itself, think of it as choosing a case for your lens. They don't affect the color filter, just how the app looks on screen.
- How does Privacy Mode work?
- Privacy Mode wraps your screen in a dark overlay, instantly obscuring your content from anyone nearby. One tap to activate, one tap to dismiss. It's designed for public spaces, shared offices, or any moment you need a second of visual quiet.
- Does Goodmood work with all apps?
- Yes. The floating lens works on top of any app or window, browsers, editors, video players, design tools, everything. A small number of full-screen video games that bypass the system compositor may be unaffected.
Privacy & data
- Why does Goodmood ask for Screen Recording permission?
-
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for apps that read your display in real time. Goodmood reads your screen only to apply a color filter to each frame.
The captured pixels are processed instantly and discarded. None of your screen content is recorded, saved to disk, or transmitted anywhere. The permission is a technical requirement from Apple for real-time display access, not a sign that anything is being stored or shared. - Does Goodmood collect any data about me?
- No. Goodmood does not collect or transmit any personal data, and it never sends your screen or your information to us or any third party. Your settings and presets are saved only on your own device. The color filtering works completely offline; the only network use is Apple's App Store, to show prices and handle optional purchases. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
- Does it require an internet connection?
- No. Goodmood works fully offline. An internet connection is only needed to download the app from the Mac App Store.
